Elda (Garrett) Cleary, 79 of Avon, wife of the late Donald Cleary, died Thursday May 18, 2017 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Torrington. She was born September 10, 1937 in North Troy, VT, daughter of the late Raymond H. and Pearl Westover Garrett and had lived in Avon for many years. Mrs. Cleary was a Customer Service Representative for McBee Bookkeeping Systems for many years prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Church of Saint Ann in Avon and the Avon Women’s Fire Auxiliary. Elda enjoyed bowling, knitting, reading and bird watching.

She is survived by her children, Darlene Sullivan and her husband Michael of Colebrook, Jeffrey Cleary and his wife Diana of Amelia, VA, Jill Cleary of Simsbury and Tammy Mudge of Mt. Laurel, NJ; her sisters, Gloria Engelke and Eva Farnham; her brother, Paul Garrett; her grandchildren, Ashley Spranzo, Kevin Spranzo, Jennifer Cleary, Kristine Mudge, Eric Mudge, Nicholas Sullivan and Mitchell Sullivan and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Wednesday, May 24th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A committal service will be held at the Sycamore Mausoleum in the Simsbury Cemetery, 15 Plank Hill Road in Simsbury at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 25th .
