Ellen Hight Morris, 88, of Simsbury, beloved wife of Irving L. Morris, Jr., died peacefully with her husband by her side on June 22, 2018, their 55th anniversary, while in hospice at Hartford Hospital following a brief illness. She was born February 9, 1930 in Portland, ME, daughter of the late Robert and Alma (Gerrish) Hight. Ellie grew up in Cape Elizabeth, ME and later Winchester, MA. She was a graduate of Middlebury College, having received her B.A. in math in 1951, one of only two women math majors in her class. She worked in Boston for a number of years, most notably as the first employee of Teradyne, a now global company. Upon her marriage in 1963 she moved to Simsbury, where she attended the First Church of Christ in Simsbury and volunteered in many capacities, including for the Farmington VNA, Simsbury Library, Simsbury Garden Club, and the Village for Families and Children. Additionally, she was an accomplished athlete, skiing and playing tennis and paddle. Throughout her life she enjoyed extensive travel with a variety of friends and family. She faced any challenges with strength, optimism and good humor, finding joy each day in her many friends and family, in particular her two grandsons with whom she shared special relationships.

In addition to her husband, Ellie is survived by her daughter Julia Ogden and her husband Steven and two grandsons, Malcolm and Christopher Ogden, all of Byfield, MA; her nephew Christopher Denny of NYC; her nephew Steven Denny and family of Castle Pines, CO; her nephew Timothy Sampson and family of Fremont, NH; and her extended Tucson, AZ family. She was predeceased by her son Jonathan Morris and her sister Susan Denny.

There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be celebrated Wednesday, July 18th, 10:30 AM at the First Church of Christ, 689 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury with a reception to follow at Hop Meadow Country Club, 85 Firetown Road in Simsbury. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Ellen H. Morris can be made to the Foundation of Mass. Eye and Ear Infirmary, Inc. (Fdn.
