Grace Brophy (Meaney)
Grace Cunningham Brophy, 82, of Farmington, formerly of West Simsbury, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, January 29, 2017 with loving family members by her side. Grace and her family had previously lived in Elizabeth, New Jersey before moving to Connecticut in 1974.
Grace was predeceased by her beloved husband of 53 years, William Raymond Brophy, Jr. She leaves behind her seven children; Jane Jones of Daytona Beach, FL, William Brophy III and his wife Kim of Mansfield, MA, Joseph Brophy and his wife Terri of Sutton, MA, Mary Eisenhauer of Ormond Beach, FL, Elizabeth Costello and her husband Michael of Farmington, CT, Theresa Ellis of Farmington, CT and Christine Levine and her husband Scott of Granby, CT; her 16 grandchildren, Marielle Wolf, Charles Jones, Katherine Brophy, Carrie Brophy, Kyle Kammerer, James Eisenhauer, Peyton Eisenhauer, Michael Costello, IV, Margaret Costello, Christopher Costello, Justin Cabral, Jade Cabral, William Ellis, Dawson Levine, Gage Levine, Baley Levine and three great grandsons; Gary Wolf III, Brophy Wolf and Mason Waite along with 64 nieces and nephews.
Originally from Brooklyn NY, Grace was one of six children of the late Brigadier General Martin H. Meaney and Anna Stewart. She was predeceased by her brother Martin and her sister Anne and is survived by two sisters; Maureen Connolly and Eileen Kenney and her husband Francis, and a brother, Francis Meaney and his wife Barbara.
Grace lived a life guided by her devotion to her faith and family. She was a devout Catholic and a long-time parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena church in West Simsbury. Grace was a sweet and kind-hearted woman who was easy to talk to and treated everyone she met with sincere love and respect. She was extremely smart and well-read with a wonderful sense of humor. In recent years, she got great joy out of being mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to the large and loving family she created. An animal lover, Grace had many pets during her life and was an avid bird watcher. Her home was a very warm and inviting place that was typically filled with family and friends.
Calling hours will be at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, on Thursday, February 2nd from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, February 3rd, 11:00 AM at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 265 Stratton Brook Road, West Simsbury. Burial will follow at Simsbury Cemetery.
