Robert C. Gauthier, 87, beloved husband of Frances (Jeffers) Gauthier, died Thursday, November 7, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital. He was born June 27, 1932 in Hartford, son of the late Joseph and Berthe (Dessureault) Gauthier and had lived in Simsbury for the past 55 years. He attended Hartford Public Schools and graduated CUM Laude from UCONN with a BS Degree in Accounting. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and also served in CT National Guard. Mr. Gauthier was a CPA for Arthur Anderson prior to starting his own CPA firm and then became a Realtor. He was an active volunteer in many leadership roles such as Chairman for Board of Finance, Treasurer, and Chairman of Board of Trustees for First Church of Christ. Bob was also a member of the American Legion (Officer and Organizer of Memorial Day parades), Simsbury Lions Club (President & Treasurer), Pine Hill Condo Assoc. (Board member), volunteer for Jack Bannan Turkey Trot, Ambassador at McLean Home, driver for Meals on Wheels, member of Encore Club (Past Vice President) and a member of the Prince Thomas of Savoy Society Italian American Club in Avon where he was fondly known as “Bocce Bob”.

He was a fan of UCONN Huskies Basketball, playing bocce, and playing cards (especially cribbage & setback) as well as spending time with family. In addition to his loving wife of 58 years, Bob is survived by his daughter, Deb Brasfield of New Hartford, and son Dave Gauthier and his wife Kathi of Simsbury; his grandchildren, Kayla and Taylor Brasfield and John and Michael Gauthier; his sisters-in-law, Jean Gauthier, Barbara Layman and Eleanor Cox, and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his brother, Joseph Richard Gauthier and his sister, Lillian Gustafson. Bob’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Francis Hospital for all the compassionate care they provided.

His family will receive friends on Friday, November 15th from 4-6 PM at Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. A memorial service with military honors will be celebrated at 11 AM on Saturday, November 16th at First Church of Christ, 689 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. F ran, I was so sorry to learn of Bob's passing. Even though we now live down in Virginia I very well remember the many times that Bob and I were together and doing things, especially for the Legion. He always had a ready smile and a willing hand in helping.

My most memorable memory of Bob was as a "Newbee" with the seniors at the Cribbage Club. Bob put together a spread sheet with all of names, phone numbers emails, etc. At the bottom of the sheet he wrote "if one of us needs help with something, one of us may be able to assist, please ask".
It really struck a chord with me so when he stopped driving, I felt privaledged to pick him up and drop him off on Tuesdays whenever I could.
