Click here to view all obituariesI have just learned of Doctor Polio's passing. I met him just before I was turning 25 and was terribly sick with Crohns disease. From age 25 to 48 (my age at time of his diagnosis) I saw him regularly for routine appointments, out pateient, hospitalizations and surgeries. He turly was not just a Doctor but became a friend to myself and my husband who pretty much attended every appointment with me. We talked of kids, private schools, family, trips, everything including my heath. He was a person of positive change and impact for me as I cried many times to him about the impacts of my illness. I made him promise that he would never retire as noone could ever help me like he could. We laughed that we would both be working until the end. As a patient, it was devastating not to be able to offer him the medical care to beat this that he offered me. That I could not giveback to him for the almost 25 years he gave to me. I had his cell, and text him a couple times just to let him know we had him in our prayers, but knew I couldnt cross the line and text too often and the office couldnt tll me specifcally what he had and what the outcome may be. I truly loved John Polio and all that he did for me and my family. My heart broke to learn he lost his battle. I thank his family for sharing him. I wish you strength through this time and hope all your wonderful memories will help you heal.
